Student bands are a great way to socialise with new people and to try and create a career for yourself. So many of today's up and coming bands are created from people who met and Universities and started bands.

So how do you start a band? There are many ways to start a new student band, first of all you could as around your friends to see if any of them share love for music and play instruments. If that fails check your University Notices Boards etc to see if any one is advertising, you could always advertise on here yourself.

Once you have found band members who both want to be in a band and share your musical genre / influences its time to start playing together. Playing as a band tends to be easier if you start to play Cover songs as you have the music available, once you feel confident try writing a song together.

So how do you make it as a band? To start with most Universities will have a battle of the bands competition, many of the winners will be asked to perform at the Summer Ball a great place to play a gig, to get gig experience as around a few bars/ pubs in town that get the type of audience that will respond to your musical preference.
